Nathai-Gyan retains EMA chairmanship
NADRA Nathai-Gyan has been appointed the chairman of the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) for a fifth consecutive term.
President Christine Kangaloo, ORTT, in accordance with Section 6(9) of the Environmental Management Act, Chap 35:05, appointed the EMA's board for a period of two years, effective July 11.
When contacted for comment, Nathai-Gyan said, 'I am appreciative of the opportunity granted to me by the Government to continue serving this country as chair of the EMA for an unprecedented fifth term.'
Nathai-Gyan thanked Planning Minister Pennelope Beckles, who she said was instrumental in ensuring the appointment, and expressed gratitude for the support of the planning ministry and the confidence shown in the EMA's board.
'This is a crucial point in the history of the EMA coming out of over a quarter century of suasion to do right by the environment to ensuring a legal framework for compliance-as signalled by the theme of the EMA's 2024-2026 Strategic Plan, 'Greater Compliance for a Greener Future'. The board comprises an excellent team and we are pleased to provide leadership at this crucial time,' Nathai-Gyan said.
