TWENTY-NINE spent 9mm shells were found on the scene of this country's first report of a double homicide for this year.

Police identified the victims as 27-year-old Christopher Williams, also known as 'One Foot', of Building Six, Maloney Gardens, D'Abadie, and a man who was only identified as Ezekiel, up to press time yesterday.

Investigators said at about 9 p.m. on Sunday, the two men were said to be liming with a group of people on the eastern side of Building Six's car park when an unknown vehicle drove into the area.

A group of men exited the car and began shooting at the friends.

Three people, including Ezekiel and Williams, were shot.

The gunmen then returned to the vehicle and drove off.

Ezekiel and Williams died on the scene, while a 30-year-old man was shot on his left hand. He was taken to the Arima Hospital for treatment.

A team of officers led by Senior Supt Francis, and including Insp Jugmohan, W/Sgt Davis, PC Salina, PC Winter, PC McQueen, WPC Mohammed, and PC Jaghoo, among others, responded.

Twenty-nine spent shells were recovered on the scene.

Cpl Rahim of the HBI is continuing enquiries.

Based on initial information, the incident has been classified as gang-related.

When the Express visited the community yesterday, residents of the area were tight-lipped over the shooting.

One woman said she was shocked to learn of Ezekiel's death.

'I don't know if it was because he was liming with the wrong people or what, I won't put my head on a block for it, but to me Ezekiel wasn't in any gang thing or anything like that. He used to live here by himself. His mother and grandmother living away at the moment, and he was just in the house. He would usually keep to himself, but he was always a quiet and decent individual. So, when I'm seeing online that police saying it's gang-related, it's a surprise to me,' one woman who gave her name as Rachel explained.

This incident brought the number of murders reported in 2023 up to five.

Last year, the first murder was reported on January 2, when 67-year-old Elza Theodora Sandy, of Saffire Drive, off Crown Street, was killed.
